I mostly work on my own, but I am a part of some teams with my clients as well! One of those is my Honey & Lavender Events team and at the end of January we had our Washington, D.C. team retreat. It has become an annual event and something I look forward to each year. I enjoy working solo, but it is so special to be a part of a team as well. I’ve worked with Maya and this team since I first started my VA business in 2021! Seeing how H&L has grown in three years has been incredible. I’m lucky to have been a part of it these past few years.
While we’ve done this retreat a few years now, it has come a long way! In 2022 we had a virtual retreat. Then in 2023 we had a one day event in our coworking office space. This year, we really upped it and turned it into a weekend event complete with a stay in DC at Hotel Washington.
The rest of the team is all local, so I headed into town on Thursday to meet up with everyone. Friday was an evening happy hour with our core and extended team. We have lots of new event assistants so it was great to meet them in person and get to know them better!
Saturday, our core team met to go over wins from last year, lessons learned, things we’re exciting about going forward, and so much more. We could talk for hours (and we did)! Following a few hours of meetings, we held a brand photo shoot. It not only gave us tons of gorgeous branding photos, but we had the best time having our photo taken too.
After the photo shoot, we had a team dinner at the rooftop restaurant Vue at Hotel Washington. We had a corner booth with views of the Washington Monument. We enjoyed delicious food and drinks along with the views. Getting to spend time together more casually is always great to get to know each other better.
The retreat ended with a couple of hours Sunday morning auditing our website and brainstorming ways to level up our work in the future. Our Washington, D.C. team retreat is definitely a highlight of my year so far. And I know it will be throughout the year. I already can’t wait for next year!
